The map

Your block, not your address

South Africa is tiled into 391 hexagonal forage blocks. You claim the one you work in, and that block is the only location anyone else ever sees.

Why a block and not a pin

A pin on a map is a set of directions. For a beekeeper that is a real risk: hive theft is the largest single loss in this industry, and a published position is an invitation.

A block is about 60 km across and covers roughly 3 125 square kilometres. It is enough for a grower to know you are in reach, and enough to warn you when hives go missing nearby. It is nowhere near enough to drive to.

When you pick your block we may ask for a more precise point, so the map is easier to use and so a grower 20 km away is not told you are 60 km away. That precision is stored privately and is never published, shared, or used to sort a public list. Only the block leaves your record.
